Karamazovshina's Musings: Alejandro Jodorowsky

Tuesday night a friend of mine surprised me with his new copy of Santa Sangre, my all time most favorite movie. It sparked a passionate discussion between us about this wonderful movie. To celebrate the Blue Ray release of Santa Sangre I want to do a post about the one of the most fascinating man of our time (well in my opinion). Some people awaken others through connecting with groups through ideiology or leading the masses but some like Jodorowsky awaken the soul of millions through their self expression. I don't think any blog I could do will do justice or express the brilliant soulfulness of this artistic genius.

Jodorowsky is most famous as a film maker but his talents and interest far exceed film. The first time I saw Santa Sangre I felt an eclectic shock go through my body. It was like talking to someone you feel totally understood by. The creative essence of this film felt so familiar like home. Santa Sangre like Hitchcock's Psycho a take on the old Oedipus Complex. Jodorowsky even admitted in one interview that he hadn't come to terms with his disdain for woman until his late 60's.

After that first encounter with him I explored everything there is to know about this man. This man is a modern day Shaman who's name is thankfully preserved by his film El Topo that started midnight movies. I know that future generations of young out of the box thinkers will stumble onto the wonderful world of this man.
