I saw Dr. Conforti lecture at the Jung Center. He presented a two day talk. The first evening was about forgiveness and the unforgivable. The Second evening was about The Complex, Redemption and the Objective Psyche. This is not light casual conversation; these are very deep and profound subjects. These were discussions about people being possessed by their complex and creating a form field that attracted situations and people to them to perpetuate the drama of the Archetypal complex that has possessed them. He expressed that from his experience he has found that the root of these possession most often time is a guilt complex, a need to be forgiven or to forgive another.
After the first night’s lecture I was blown away and the reality of my own need for forgiveness hit me full force like a volcano about to erupt. I walked across the street to the sculpture garden for some privacy and it all came out. It was a sudden overwhelming child like cry. As my friend said “It washed over you”, indeed it did. It was definitely not what I was planning on for the evening.
I was rather raw later that night but decided to go to the all day workshop the following day. I’m so glad I did I know that when I look back on 2011 it will be the defining moment of the year. The work shop was wonderful and gave me another perspective from which to look at these dark subjects. He shared with us some case studies and film clips as well as personal stories. It was very engaging and I think the fact that he speaks with a thick NY accent made him feel more assessable to a layperson like myself. Since then I try my best to look at people in my life objectively and try to figure out if and if so what patter or drama are they caught in. Maybe I’ll find the answer in a folktale that is specific to their culture or maybe it’s a story from the bible or a Greek god that I recognize in them.
His main focus is connecting functioning patterns, archetypes and complexes in life to the human psyche. His books include Field, Form and Fate: Patterns in Mind, Nature and Psyche, Threshold Experiences: The Archetype of Beginnings, and has a new book coming out titled Hidden Presence: Archetypes, Spells, Possessions and the Complex. The works of Dr. Conforti are invaluable not only on a personal level but also how we relate to each other and to life in all its aspects. Here are some resources that are easy to explore online.
